Usually no, not automatically.

Federal Law

A federal extension extends the time to file your federal return. It does not automatically extend the time to file a state return, and it does not extend the time to pay federal tax.

State Law Note

State income tax extension rules are administered under state law. Whether a federal extension also covers your state return depends on the specific state.

Some states provide an automatic state extension or coordinate their rules with the federal extension. Other states require a separate state extension form and do not accept the federal extension by itself. Also, a state may still require payment of any state tax due by the original due date even if it allows additional time to file.

So, you should not assume that filing a federal extension automatically covers your state return. The controlling authority is the applicable state revenue department or tax agency.
